Lessons from Jon Barron
Helping Your Liver & Gallbladder

In this week's excerpt from Lessons from the Miracle Doctors, Jon Barron talks about what can be done to help your liver and gallbladder.

Daily Health Tip Image"Fortunately, your liver has an astounding ability to regenerate itself—if you give it a chance. Giving it a chance means two things:

  1. The Don'ts — Improper dietary choices particularly affect liver health. You need to eliminate (or at least cut back on) the liver stressors in your diet. Too much protein in the diet is especially taxing on the liver. Too many simple carbohydrates in the diet are converted into triglycerides and stored in the liver. And overeating enzyme-deficient food stresses the liver. The sicker you are, the cleaner your diet needs to be. If you're suffering from serious liver problems, a raw juice diet may be required to give your liver time to regenerate.

  2. The Do's — Several times a year, you need to do an herbal detoxification/flush to rebuild your liver. A low-level cleanse using betaine hydrochloride and pancreatic enzymes is also helpful, as is drinking fresh beet/apple juice regularly. You need to regularly include nutritional support for the liver. Look for formulas that contain milk thistle, dandelion root, the perennial herb Picrorrhiza kurroa, and artichoke or beet leaf. Picrorrhiza has been shown to protect liver cells from the many degenerative changes that would normally be caused by a variety of liver toxins. It appears to be particularly useful in treating both alcoholic liver damage and chronic viral hepatitis.

By cleansing the liver, we're talking about inducing the liver to purge all of the fats, old cholesterol deposits, incipient gallstones, poisons, drug residues, and toxic waste stored therein. Probably nothing else you do (including a colon cleanse) will make a greater difference in your overall health. However, it is vital that you do a colon cleanse before doing the liver cleanse. When the liver dumps, it dumps through the bile duct and into the colon. If the colon is plugged, the waste backs up into the bloodstream and can make you feel extremely ill. This is the reason that the "miracle doctors" always start with a colon detox. It's the prerequisite for all the other cleanses in the body—and, of course, can also produce dramatic healing in its own right. For most people, and particularly for those who have never done a liver cleanse before, it is also vital that you soften any stones that you may have by using a Chanca piedra/hydrangea root/gravel root herbal tincture before you do the liver detox. (We'll talk more about this formula when we explore the kidney flush.)"
