And now they're at it again. Scientists have known for nigh on half a decade that the hypothalamuses of overweight animals - including humans -- show signs of inflammation, a typical reaction to injury. The crucial question, of course, is whether the inflammation is the result of becoming obese, or does it occur before the obesity occurs and triggers the obesity? And also, as the lead investigator, Michael Schwartz, said, "What is causing the inflammatory response and could that have something to do with the obesity itself?" A recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation attempted to answer that question.
